Direct Cash Transfers (DCT-P) Handbook
A guide to successfully help you move through ideation, implementation and evaluation.
ABOUT THIS TOOL
Welcome! Point Source Youth (PSY) is excited that you are interested in Direct Cash Transfers (DCTs) as an intervention to prevent youth homelessness. PSY has supported the successful launch of DCT-P pilots in seven communities across the nation and we are actively working on many more. If you are reading this handbook, we know that you are an advocate for preventing youth homelessness, and curious about utilizing direct financial assistance to prevent a young person from experiencing a housing crisis.
Whatever path has led you to our first DCT-P handbook, we are thrilled to be in community with you on this journey. PSY welcomes you to join the our movement, where youth autonomy, choice, and voice are essential tools in the fight to end homelessness.
What are Direct Cash Transfers as Prevention
(DCT-P)?
DCT-P is a one-time housing stabilization payment meant to disrupt a young person’s entry into homelessness.
It has three essential components:
-
Funding intended to fund the young person’s self-directed housing stabilization plan, provided directly to the young person.
-
These conversations support young people to explore their available resources, relationships, strengths, and opportunities to illuminate possibilities for that young person to be housed outside of the homelessness system. The goal is to develop a specific housing stabilization plan that the young person wants to pursue.
-
All supportive programming is option, flexible, and youth-driven. Provided by a local community-based organization, it can include housing navigation, coaching, financial empowerment, and relationship mediation.
